Overview

The MS Society of Canada’s website supports people living with Multiple Sclerosis, as well as their families and caregivers. My team and I redesigned key parts of the site to improve accessibility, ease of navigation, and emotional resonance, especially for users newly diagnosed, who often turn to the site as a first source of guidance and reassurance.

My Approach

  • Synthesized group observations into early assumption and key themes
  • Validated assumptions by creating and executing surveys and user interviews based on identified themes.
  • Led the homepage design with an empathy-first focus, tailored to the emotional needs of newly diagnosed users. The goal was to create a sense of clarity, trust, and human connection right from the first interaction.
  • Contributed to key UI elements across the site, focusing on accessible form design and clear navigation. Every component was designed with inclusivity in mind, especially for users with physical or cognitive impairments.
  • Created design system from scratch based on collective designs including brand colors, typography and components.

Result

Our work made it easier for users to find where and how to donate, while also improving the emotional tone of the site for those seeking support.
  • An increased success rate from 78% to 98% across 3 usability tests.
  • Overall users felt more emotionally supported by our design and narrative
